SPA2 Washdown: IP65 CO2 laser coder for demanding production lines

SPA2 Washdown is an IP65 CO2 laser coder for high-speed packaging lines operating in wet, dusty or regularly cleaned production areas. It creates permanent variable data directly on suitable bottles, cartons, blister packs and other packaging formats, without inks or solvents at the coding point.

Available in continuous-wave and pulsed configurations from 60 W to 125 W, SPA2 Washdown is designed for food, beverage, pharmaceutical, personal care and home-care manufacturers that need reliable coding in demanding industrial environments.

Reliable laser coding for washdown environments

Production lines in food, beverage and household-care facilities often operate with moisture, airborne dust and frequent cleaning routines. SPA2 Washdown has an IP65 configuration designed for these conditions, helping protect the laser system where water exposure and hygiene procedures are part of daily production.

Its direct laser process marks the required information on the pack, reducing ink and solvent handling at the coding point.

Power and performance for high-speed packaging lines

SPA2 Washdown is available in several CO2 laser configurations:

  • 60 W, 80 W and 100 W continuous-wave models.
  • 80 W and 125 W pulsed models for more demanding speed requirements.

The most suitable configuration depends on the packaging material, code content, marking area, contrast requirement, lens and line speed. In selected pulsed applications, the system can support outputs of up to 200,000 bottles per hour.

Every application should be validated on the real packaging before final specification.

Configure the wavelength around the packaging material

Different packaging materials absorb laser energy differently. SPA2 Washdown can be configured with the wavelength that best suits the application:

  • 10.6 μm for a broad range of standard packaging applications.
  • 10.2 μm for selected film applications.
  • 9.3 μm for selected PET bottle-coding applications.

The system can be assessed for paper, cardboard, glass, ceramics, coated materials, PET, PVC and other suitable packaging substrates. Final code quality depends on the material, colour, coating, surface finish and production conditions.

Permanent variable data for traceability

SPA2 Washdown marks changing production information directly onto the packaging. Typical coding content includes:

  • Best-before, expiry and production dates.
  • Batch, lot and shift codes.
  • Product references and serialisation data.
  • Barcodes, QR codes and Data Matrix codes.
  • Logos, promotional information and variable text.

Where 2D codes are used for traceability, their content, size, contrast and verification requirements should be defined before installation.

DUO technology for code quality at production speed

DUO dual-processor technology separates variable-data management from laser control. This helps maintain code quality when messages change during production, including batch information, dates, serial numbers and 2D codes.

Macsa id VCS technology also supports consistent code quality on high-speed lines where positioning and repeatability are critical.

Control, connectivity and remote monitoring

SPA2 Washdown includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen controller with Marca Touch OS, contextual help and on-screen support materials for daily operation.

The system can be integrated into automated lines through TCP/IP. Profinet and OPC-UA can be specified where required by the production-line architecture.

It can also be connected to IntegraNET for equipment monitoring, diagnostics, remote support and maintenance planning.

Designed for beverage, food and packaged goods applications

SPA2 Washdown is particularly suitable for:

  • Date and batch coding on beverage bottles.
  • Traceability coding on food packaging.
  • Marking on cartons and secondary packaging.
  • Coding on blister packs and pharmaceutical packaging.
  • Identification on personal-care and home-care products.
  • QR code and Data Matrix marking for connected packaging.
